The area around Saint Raphaël is one of the most naturally beautiful parts of the French Riviera. The monumental red cliff faces of the Massif d’Esterel rise out of the water, creating a stark contrast against the vivid turquoise of the Mediterranean sea and the deep greens of the surrounding forests. The region has some of the best walking trails in the Côte d’Azur, which range in difficulty making them suitable for all abilities. For the less energetic, a drive along the stunning coastal road, La Corniche d’Or, will reward visitors with breathtaking views of the secluded creeks and calanques that punctuate the dramatic rock formations.

Some of the best golf courses in the South of France are situated near Saint Raphaël, benefitting from the magnificent countryside that surrounds them. Good clubs include the Golf de Valesclure, the oldest 18 hole course on the French Riviera, the beautifully sculpted Golf de L’Ésterel, and the 9 hole Golf de Cap Esterel, which enjoys stunning sea views of the Côte d’Azur.

Saint Raphaël and nearby Agay are home to a large assortment of water sports. Sailing, windsurfing, canoeing, motor boating and water skiing are all popular here. The diving in this area of the Mediterranean is some of the best to be found on the French Riviera. There are nearly 50 shipwrecks in the nearby waters, allowing for some fantastic dive spots, which are easily reached from Saint Raphaël’s 26 miles of coastline. There are natural underwater arches and coral covered cliffs, as well as an abundance of species of fish.

One of the other great opportunities available in  St Raphael is to rent a boat for a day and tour the beautiful coastline.
