GIRAGLIA BEACH, private beach, Grimaud, French Riviera
About the beach
The Giraglia private beach, set in the gorgeous port of Grimaud, is part of the Giraglia hotel, but it is also available for use by non-residents. Its major selling point is the fantastic view across the bay to St Tropez, which is a short hop away by boat, or a 7km drive via the scenic vineyard-lined roads. Guests can take advantage of the Calypso bar, and its range of cocktails, and waiters will bring drinks directly to their sun loungers. Boat trips with a skipper can be arranged from the beach club, and there is also a comprehensive range of water sports that can be booked just around the corner from the private beach. Once the entry fee to the beach is paid, it also allows the use of the lovely swimming pool at the hotel. Sitting with your feet in the fine white sand and watching the sun set against the backdrop of St Tropez, is an idyllic way to spend a warm summer’s evening on the Côte d’Azur.

Attractions nearby
Grimaud is a charming example of a typical South of France village perché, set up on a hill around an old castle. The village is steeped in history, and still boasts a fully functioning flour mill which visitors can see. The little streets, with their old wooden doors and colourful flower pots, are full of character, making for a very pleasant afternoon stroll. Down on the coast, Port Grimauld is entirely built on the water around marshland. Its aqueous nature has meant that it has taken on the nickname of the ‘Little Venice’ of the Côte d’Azur, and a cruise through the attractive canals offers visitors a chance to take in the pretty fishing houses and the waterside activities. Everything can be reached by boat, and therefore this delightful Riviera town is largely blissfully free of traffic.
A trip to the nearby scenic fishing village of Saint Tropez is a must do for visitor to this area of the Riviera, and it is easily reached by boat from Port Grimaud. The Café Sénéquier by the port is the place to settle down for a glass of rosé and a session of lucrative people-watching as the rich and famous spill off their yachts. La Place des Lices is home to an excellent outdoor market on Tuesdays and Saturdays, and the rest of the time, it is an excellent spot to catch the Saint Tropez locals playing a traditional game of boules.
